It is difficult to imagine that this externally calm and unshakable mountain surrounded by luxurious flowering meadows, is one of the most active and dangerous volcanoes in the Ring of Fire. Now this place is filled with tranquility, relaxing breaths of wind, silence free from city noise, and beautiful natural scenery. But back in 1980, after a series of earthquakes, Mount St. Helens emitted at least one booming explosion and spewed a 6,000-foot ash cloud into the sky. The volcano continued to spit ash through the end of April, forming two large craters which eventually merged into one.
