Some background: The holiday of Tu Bishvat is known as the New Year for Trees! That newness finds agricultural expression in the fact that "now the syrup (in Hebrew: saraf) comes up inside the tree" and later delivered to the fruits. The Hebrew word doubles for a word which means burning. Next to know: The Torah says people are like trees. Finally to know: we are one third through the Jewish year. In our bodies, a third down from the head is the heart. All this yields the following meditation: get in touch with your heart now and discover the new, passionate devotion which will soon be yielding fruit in your life. So Find yourself a quite and secluded place to sit. Put on a nice set of headphones and open your heart to the new possiblities this season offers us. This is one of a number of meditations that are part of a course I'm currently offering on Zoom. If pursuing a process of learning Jewish meditation interests you, write me at [email protected].
Blessings for a happy new year!
